Similarities and Differences
Pottery
Both civilizations focused on the subjects of humans, gods and animals in their pottery. Their pottery was handmade using the material of clay.
However, Aztec pottery served more uses than Mayan pottery. For example, Aztecs made clay earrings, masks as well as ceramic sculptures, while Mayans mainly focused on their uses for powerful figures. Also, Aztecs are known for their use of geometric shapes and patterns on pottery but Mayans don't use that technique on their pottery.

Religious ideas were important for Aztec and Maya sculptures. Sacrifice and gods were portrayed in their sculptures. Jade was also a commonly used sculpting material in both civilizations.
Yet, in Mayan sculptures there are many examples of the use of carvings and hieroglyphs while it wasn't big for the Aztecs. As well as that, Aztecs showed more interest in carving palaces, pyramids and temples than the Mayans. Aztecs are also known for their skull art, which is famous in Mexico today, but Mayans were never familiar with these designs.

Some simalarities that both civilizations share in their drawings is that they both use pictures which portray nobility, battle and sacrifice.
But they are more different tham the same, for Mayans have huge murals that showed worship to their gods while Aztecs used pictograms that served as a numbering system.

Symbols, one of the most similar aspects of calligraphy between the Aztecs and the Mayans writing is their symbols. Aztecs and Mayans both use symbols that very pictorial (they're symbols that look like pictures) to represent animals, people, nature etc... in an easier form.
As for the writing, The Aztecs adn The Mayans are still very diffrent.
