Aztec's Writing
|
The Aztec’s or “Mexica” as they used to call themselves, were a strong military empire, located in Central Mexico. The Aztec’s originated in the semi-arid or region environments of North of Mexico, as a part of the “Chichimec” tribes.
The language that the Aztec’s used to speak was Nahuatl, the majority of Central Mexico, Laguna Franca and parts of Mesoamerica used to speak it. The Nahuatl language consisted of three main functions, specifically to mark calendrical dates, to calculate mathematical calculation as well as writing names of people and places. The Nahuatl writing was primarily written on deer-skin and paper codices. It is thought that Mixtec writing influenced Nahuatl writing, but both are possibly influenced by earlier writing systems of cities such as Xochicalco, Cacaxtla, and the even more ancient Teotihuacan. |
Mayan's Writing
The Mayan’s writing involved native Americas. They were extremely intelligent in mathematics and engineering. The Mayans words or hieroglyphics were a very different and unusual symbols and ideograms. The understanding of the Mayan’s writings has been a very long process. Many bits of it were first solved in the late 19th and early 20th century mostly the parts having to do with numbers, the calendar, and astronomy, but major breakthroughs came starting in the 1960's and 1970's and accelerated rapidly thereafter, so that now the majority of Maya texts can be read nearly completely in their original languages.
The Mayan people are still present in the region they dominated and beyond, in Honduras, Belize and Guatemala. Many still speak Mayan languages.
